Manchester United have just announced the signing of the charmingly named Bebe from Portuguese outfit Vitoria de Guimaraes. Bebe is said to have quite an interesting background. He was an orphan and street child who once represented Portugal in the Homeless World Cup. He is said to now be big and strong with good technical skills.
Charmingly named personnel seem in vogue on the red side of Manchester this season. Mexican striker Javier Hernandez—Chicharito, or “Little Pea”—has signed on from Chivas of Guadalajara. Chicharito got his first taste of what was to come in the EPL when he was subbed into the Community Shield match at Wembley last week against Chelsea. Manchester United won that match 3-1 and the Little Pea got one of the goals. It was quite a remarkable one at that; seldom does a player head in his own cross for a goal! Chicharito accomplished that odd feat when his falling-away, right foot effort in the penalty box deflected from his foot and off his face and into the net. A goal is a goal!
