I prefer facing one of the big boys on the opening day than a promoted side, who you know will treat this as their cup final, to Liverpool, its just another game.In truth we never beat Liverpool away, but I am preferring to remain optimistic over this fixture and consider that we have actually had the better of results in the last ten years, although I have to confess it is only just the case, but any positive and all that.
Both sides would realistically take a point I would imagine, but for Spurs, a home loss on the opening day would lead us to Hull next week as worried men (women or children, just to be PC) that this will be another false dawn and our season is destined to another failure, inside a week.
Perhaps we should start by being grateful that we have an opening day home fixture for the first time in five years, when we co-incidentally faced Liverpool in a 1-1 draw on this very day. Jermain Defoe, the man who holds our biggest hope of scoring this time, saved a point in that game with an equaliser from a Djibril Cisse opener.

Liverpool have a number of key injury worries ahead of the weekends game, with Agger (back), Aurelio (Knee) Aguilani (ankle) and El Zhar (knee) all out with Gerrard (groin), Carragher (ankle) and Skrtel (hamstring), all doubtful for the game. Let`s hope they all start the game but are only 70% fit...
As easy as it is to get excited about pre season form, Liverpool`s hasn`t been that good, with only two wins in their eight games, against fairly standard opposition. Defeats to Espanyol and Athletic Madrid were excusable, but both were disappointing in terms of performance and there is a little bit of worry that despite last season`s close battle with United, Liverpool may struggle this season and United and Chelsea could emerge the stronger. Any team with Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres have to be feared, but over reliance in individuals could be their undoing.
The feeling with Spurs ambitions this season are pretty realistic, any thoughts of Champions league qualification has been knocked out of us by a series of disappointment and the 200 million expenditure of Man City, we all seem to be thinking of 6th - 8th, as opposed to breaking the big four, perhaps a great start for a change, will suddenly raise hopes, but let`s get that great start first..

Spurs will be without Jonathan Woodgate (groin), Michael Dawson (Achilles), Gareth Bale (knee) with Jermaine Jenas (calf) doubtful) and Gio probably missing, due to jet lag. It appears that all international travellers have returned unscathed and hopefully fitter and better prepared for another 90 minutes under their belts, although I am sure Harry would have preferred to have them remain at home.
Although I feel the majority of our starting eleven picks itself, with Gomes, Corluka, King, Bassong and BAE making up the back five, Lennon, Palacios, Hudd and Modric, in the middle, the main question is who plays in attack?

For me Harry has to go with the man in form and pick Jermain Defoe and then make a decision over Pav or Peter Crouch as his partner. Much could depend on how Pav has recovered from his international travels, I would be tempted to give Roman the nod, as he looked excellent last weekend and already has the understanding with Lennon and Modric in the middle and links well with Jermain. A close call, especially in leaving two strikers with something to prove to Benitez, but I would like to see us pick the players in form as much as those who tactically will give us the best chance of winning the game.
