Carlo Ancelotti has been given the task of leading this Chelsea team to their first ever Champions League trophy.

On Tuesday, the Blues will be at Stamford Bridge for a difficult game against the 2004 UEFA Champions League winners Porto FC.

Will Carlo Ancelotti pass the test?

Kicking off the European season in style is something that will come as a great relief to every Chelsea fan. After losing out on penalties against Manchester United in the final of the competition in 2008, Roman Abrahamovic was left completely broken.

Last season too, the Blues’ hopes of reaching a second consecutive Champions League final were dented by a lucky Barcelona side.

Can this year be Chelsea’s year?

Jose Mourinho failed at all his attempts to offer Chelsea the UEFA Champions League trophy. Avram Grant was a shot away from doing so. As for Guus Hiddink, he was surprised by Iniesta’s injury time equalizer and by a controversial officiating in the second leg of the semi-finals.

Carlos Ancelotti is one of the only managers to have won the Champions League as a player and boss. He was successful in Europe with his former team AC Milan. How good can he use his experience now that he is the coach of another fine side, Chelsea?

The pressure will be intense on Tuesday night as the Blues are aware of FC Porto’s abilities in this competition.

Playing against this side is nothing new for the Londoners. Two seasons ago, Chelsea had to play them in the knock-out stages of the Champions League and a 1-1 draw was all they could get at Stamford Bridge.

This time, a draw will certainly not be good enough as Chelsea would love to take control of Group D from the very start.

FC Porto can surprise Chelsea

Like they did in Manchester, FC Porto could surprise Chelsea. A draw will be quite a good result for the Dragons although they might go out with the aim of beating Chelsea on their own soil.
Hulk is one of the players that is expected to shine in Europe this season. The midfielder was rated as one of the best players in the Peace Cup tournament earlier in the summer.

A wonder striker from Cristiano Ronaldo ousted them from the Champions League last season and the players were left bitter after the defeat.

In this new campaign, FC Porto will want to go some steps further and equal their achievement of the 2003/04 season when they were crowned champions of Europe.
Jose Mourinho, who led them to this memorable success, is no more in the club so as the Argentine Lisandro Lopez.

Where can FC Porto find the fire to dazzle on the European stage?

Unity and an excellent midfield could power them to an excellent result against Chelsea this coming Tuesday. From there, FC Porto

might find back the strength that they had six years ago.
