Chelsea will travel to Denmark to face FC Copenhagen in the first leg of their last 16 UEFA Champions League clash.
Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti will be desperate for a good result to lift the pressure, the Blues have crashed out of the FA Cup, fallen to fifth place in the Premier League and failed to win in three games since their £50 million capture of striker Fernando Torres.
World Cup winner Torres will make his Champions League debut for Chelsea in this game, French forward Nicolas Anelka is also likely to play in Denmark and has scored five goals in five Champions League games this season. Michael Essien and Jose Bosingwa will also return for Chelsea, after sitting out the FA Cup defeat to Everton.
Copenhagen winger Jesper Gronkjaer will play against his former club, and is well aware of how difficult a task faces the Danish league leaders. “Chelsea were probably the team we did not want to play against because they play very physically. Obviously their squad is full of fantastic players and they play slightly the same way we do,” Gronkjaer told the official UEFA website.
Copenhagen top the Danish league but due to a winter break will be playing their first game in two months. The Dane’s will be playing their first game in the Champions League knockout stages, and will be heartened by the fact that they achieved a 1-1 home draw against FC Barcelona during the group stages.
